My heart aches!

Dear brothers and sisters,

Every time I read an article about our once beautiful and peaceful country, I can’t help but shed into tears. The one question that has refused to go is “Why?”

1. Why can’t the leaders get into the root of the problem and deal with it?

2. Why can’t the leaders see that Kenya is daily being destroyed beyond repair?
3. Why are the leaders not willing to listen to Wananchi or the international community?

4. Why aren’t the leaders learning any lesson from countries that have gone that way?

5. Why are the leaders acting as if everything is normal when in fact everything in Kenya has changed?

But even more disturbing is this,” Where are the peace makers?” Is there no one in Kenya who can unite the country? Does anyone out there have some answers?

Well, I will continue to send my petition to the only God who understands the pain in my heart.

God bless Kenya.

My prayers and heart is with all Kenyans.

The Kalenjins Should stop Crying Wolf.
I am amazed reading contributions made by Kalenjins on how opressed they are by the Kibaki regime, They complain how Kibaki got rid of Kalenjins and instead hired Kikuyus. One thing we should remember is that Kalenjins had one of them in power for 24 years and almost all public instituitons were headed by them. The sad thing about is that most were never qualified and ruined a lot of Kenyans parastatals. Some of the ODM leading torch lights are well known for running down Kenyan parastatals to the ground and others for acquiring huge tracts of lands from parastals for their own benefits. You kalenjins have had your chance for 24 years and if your people who were in government never assisted, you should blame them and not Kibaki. For the last five years, your maize and milk prices have risen and you have market for them unlike Moi’s regime. You should be the last people on these blogs crying about missed opportunities because you have had them. I can truly understand the Luos and Luhyas predicament but not the Kalenjins. Burning innocent children and women is not an act of warriors, those are acts of cowardice.

We think it is important to differentiate between a small group of people and an entire tribe. Whoever burned the church in Eldoret did not represent an entire community. There is also evidence that some of these gangs of youth were paid by politicians and that this may have happened on both sides of the political divide. Although we would much prefer an investigation by an independent organization such as Human Rights Watch, we await a report from (Kibaki government funded) KNCHR before passing judgement on any person and certainly on any tribe…

That said, the grievances of Kalenjins and Maasai can be traced to the British colonial system of divide and rule. From our understanding, the British gave members of the Kikuyu tribe land that had previously (before colonization) belonged to the Kalenjins. This land rights struggle between the Kalenjin and the Kikuyu flared up in the 90s under Moi and seems to have flared up again. Overall, this debacle has exacerbated old grievances–tribal and socioeconomic.

We do not say this as an excuse but as a matter of historical record. As a source of alternative media, we must always be loyal to the truth.
